Evan Tynan wants to put your name—or message—in lights. Pixels, actually.
Tynan is Metro State’s new media manager and oversees the flat-screen digital signs and the interactive kiosk in the Student Success Building. He wants to spread the word about the high-tech gear and let the campus know the signs are available for students, faculty and staff to display information or promote an upcoming event.
Seven departments in the SSB have purchased flat-screen signs that hang outside their offices. Each department has designated someone to add or delete messages through a web-based content management system. A few people, Tynan included, have access to all seven signs.
Each screen has four content areas. A department’s messages or images—PowerPoint presentations, movie files, etc. —appear in the largest area; a section on the bottom right of the screen is used by the department for events or other information.
In the upper right is a smaller area used for campus-wide messaging. This is where Tynan displays faculty, staff or student information sent to him, and it is used by Student Activities as well. Lastly, department-managed RSS news feeds scroll across the bottom of the screen.
The interactive, touch-screen kiosk is located just inside the main entrance to the SSB. It is divided into two parts: “Metro State” and “Discover Denver,” which will feature information about nearby restaurants, shopping, entertainment, transportation and more.
The Metro State section includes a virtual directory of the Student Success Building. In addition, students can enter their class number and the kiosk will display a route from the SSB to that class. The “attract” screen is where members of the campus community can promote an event or course offerings, for instance.
To have content displayed on the signs, or on the kiosk, or to provide feedback, send Tynan an email or call him at 970-988-2334. For information about purchasing a sign, contact Mike Hart, director of facilities, asset management and networking.
