Maintenance on the North and South Classrooms is planned for this week, as are several construction projects.
Opening of the North Classroom will be delayed until 7 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19, as the Auraria Police Department coordinates the removal of outdated chemicals from the building.
Denver authorities will remove the chemicals and Denver Fire and EMS personnel will be present as a precaution. Occupants with authorized access may still enter the building, but the area near the southeast entrance will be unavailable until the removal process has been completed.
For more information contact Corporal Leonard Peete, Auraria emergency preparedness officer, at 303-556-2264 or leonard.peete@ahec.edu.
Construction

Pedestrian traffic will be allowed through the breezeway, however vehicle traffic will not be allowed during construction hours.
Then on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 21-22, Auraria Facilities Services will coordinate asbestos abatement at the northeast entrance of the West Classroom Building Removal and disposal of all asbestos material will be conducted under full containment in accordance with Federal law and Colorado State Regulation 8. Air quality for this project will be monitored by a third party.
At the South Classroom, large cranes will be located to the north and west side of the building through early January 2013 to remove old air handlers and to place new units to the roof.
Pedestrian and campus vehicle traffic at Champa and 10th streets will be significantly impacted. The area will be cordoned off and will include signage and personnel to direct traffic safely through the area.
