Upgrade of campus computers with latest operating systems under way

Metro State Technology Support Services is beginning the process of upgrading campus computers to the latest operating systems: Microsoft Windows 7.0 and Lion for Apple Macintosh.

All new desktop computers, which are being replaced as part of the annual process, are being delivered with Windows 7.0 or Lion. Individuals from Technology Support Services are still working to finalize the encryption process for Windows 7.0 on laptops, which they expect to complete within the next few weeks. All new Apple Macintoshes are being encrypted and delivered to faculty and staff with the Lion operating system.

Faculty and staff who currently have Windows XP or another operating system and would like to be upgraded to Windows 7.0 or Lion should contact the Metro State Help Desk at 303-352-7548 to make the request. Initially, priority will be given to faculty who teach in the student computer labs, where the machines are already loaded with Windows 7.0, to ensure their computers are compatible and consistent before the start of the 2012 fall semester.

Metro State faculty and staff also have access to free software for their home computers, including Microsoft Windows 7.0, Microsoft Office 2010 and Microsoft Office 2011 for Macintosh. Please contact the Metro State Help Desk at 2-7548 to request a copy of this software.

Information, including details about Windows 7.0, can be found on the Metro State Technology Support Services website; information about the Lion operating system can be found by clicking here.
