Metro State athletics hosts RMAC soccer tournament, joins community efforts
Nov 4, 2009

The Roadrunners are continuing to make their mark on the community, with both their playing abilities and their sportsmanship.

Hosting RMAC Women’s Soccer Tournament
Metro State will host the 2009 RMAC Women’s Soccer Tournament on Friday and Sunday, Nov. 6 and 8. The Roadrunners won the regular season conference championship for the eighth straight year and will host the tournament for the sixth year in a row. They will play the winner of the Regis-Mesa State game at noon on Friday in the semifinals.

The championship game will be at noon on Sunday.

Metro State is going for its fifth RMAC Tournament championship. The fourth-ranked team in the nation, the Roadrunners are also expected to reach the NCAA Tournament for the eighth consecutive year. They won national championships in 2004 and 2006 and reached the Final Four last year.

Also on Sunday before the championship game will be the Miles for Myles initiative, a benefit for cancer research in honor of the late NCAA President, Myles Brand. The 3-mile run/walk will begin at 10:30 a.m. in front of the Auraria Event Center. All participants are asked to donate $1 per mile ($3 total) for cancer research.

Being a good sport
On Friday, Oct. 23, the entire volleyball team and coaching staff took advantage of some down time to bring smiles to children. After learning that their match in Kearney, Neb. had been rescheduled from Friday evening to Sunday afternoon, Head Coach Debbie Hendricks arranged to have her players donate two hours at The Children's Hospital doing arts and crafts activities with patients waiting for their appointments.
