Saturday’s game is the annual “Play for Kay” fundraiser. Donations will be taken before and during the game and all the money will be given directly to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund to help with cancer research.
Yow was a former North Carolina State University head women’s basketball coach and a past president and founding member of the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association. After being diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987 she died on Jan. 24, 2009 after three separate fights with the disease. Since its inception in 2007 the Kay Yow Cancer Fund had raised more than $7 million.
