Apr 16, 2012

The entire Metro State community is invited to celebrate the signing of SB 12-148, which authorizes Metro State to change its name to Metropolitan State University of Denver, Wednesday, April 18 in the Student Success Building lobby. The celebration starts at 2:45 p.m. Gov. John Hickenlooper will sign the bill promptly at 3 p.m.

Lt. Gov. Joseph Garcia, Board of Trustees Vice Chair Michelle Lucero as well as the bill's primary sponsors, Sen. Lucia Guzman and Rep. Crisanta Duran, will also attend.

Metro State will officially change its name on July 1, almost 47 years after the institution opened.

Refreshments featuring free cupcakes from the Cake Crumbs bakery, owned by Metro State alumni Denon (’01) and Sean (’99) Moore, will be served. The bakery, which also runs The Denver Cupcake Truck, will produce 350 mini cupcakes for the event.

In addition, the first 200 students who come to the celebration will receive the “Metro State U” T-shirts.

The Metro State Roadrunner Pride Pep Band will be on hand to add to the festivities.
