Throughout the past year, @Metro has brought you tidbits of history pertaining to the past 40 years at Metro State; now we will look to the future. Several members of the staff and student body were asked what they imagine Metro State will be like 10 years and 40 years from now.

Since Metro State opened its doors 40 years ago it, like other college campuses around the U.S. and the world, has been a catalyst and focal point of political action and protest.

For some at Metro State, the recent RTD strike calls to memory the King Soopers/Safeway strike of 1996.

One of the first settlements in Denver, Auraria was founded in1858. Auraria received its name when a small group of gold miners left the town of Auraria, Ga. (now a ghost town) for the Kansas Territory and what is now Denver, looking for prosperity and gold.

Now that Metro State is 40 years old and has more than 53,000 graduates—most of whom have stayed in Colorado—it’s not surprising to run into other Roadrunners as we go about our daily lives. But to do so in another state, well, that’s another matter.
