Hickenlooper cites higher education initiatives in State of the State speech

Colorado is expected this month to adopt a new state financial aid formula for higher education to promote retention and timely graduation, Gov. John Hickenlooper said in his State of the State address last Thursday, Jan. 10.

The ASSET bill (Advancing Students for a Stronger Economy Tomorrow), which addresses in-state tuition at Colorado’s colleges and universities for undocumented students, is set to be introduced in the legislature on Tuesday, Jan. 15.

Amendment S on the Nov. 6 election ballot makes several changes to the state classified personnel system, including increasing flexibility in hiring, modifying the residency requirement and expanding the veterans’ preference.

General Fund revenue projections up

The Colorado Legislative Council is predicting that, in spite of a somewhat pessimistic overall state economic forecast it released Sept. 20, General Fund revenues will increase in fiscal years 2012-13 and 2013-14.
