Census figures show 10% increase in enrollment
Jun 24, 2009

Increase is the operable word for this summer semester when talking about enrollment.

Census date figures include a headcount increase of 10.2 percent and an 11.7 percent jump in total Full-Year FTES over last summer at the same point.

Full-time students increased by 12.5 percent and part-time students increased by 9.6 percent. The average credit hour load grew from 5.79 to 5.93.

Of particular note, the number of continuing students increased by 9.3 percent, or 575 students, which supports the idea that College retention efforts have had an impact on retaining students.

In addition, the following classifications all showed increases

• new students: 13.7 percent (135 students)
• college transfers: 12.7 percent (94 students)
• GED: 60.0 percent (15 students)
• high school: 35.0 percent (50 students)
• readmits: 17.8 percent (59 students)
• continuing: 9.3 percent (575 students)

One small decrease is in the percentage of students who are people of color: from 25.4 percent to 25.0 percent compared to last year.Office of Institutional Research Coordinator Ellen Boswell notes that students of color account for 21.7 percent of the actual growth for the institution.

The full report will be posted on the OIR Web site (www.mscd.edu/facstaff/oir/) later this week.
