State employees enjoy discounts with a click of a mouse

Everyone loves a bargain. And there are bargains galore available to Colorado State employees, which includes everyone who works at MSU Denver.

The state’s Employee Discount Program lists product and service discounts from businesses and agencies nationally and locally.

The program’s PerkSpot website aggregates discounts by category—apparel, automotive, cell phones, tickets and much more—and by store (there are dozens of them listed).

But the employee discount website cautions that the discounts are not necessarily the best deal available.

“Each employee should research and compare prices, levels of service, or any certification or licensing requirements before making any purchase or signing any agreement or contract,” the site says.

All permanent state employees are also eligible to receive discounted childcare at various providers. Employees must contact the provider for eligibility, enrollment, and discount-pricing information.

In 2007, voter-approved Amendment 41 took effect, which restricts state employees from receiving certain "gifts" and "special discounts" that have a value of more than $50. But bargain hunters take heart. Discounts under the employee discount program “are not prohibited by Amendment 41 as they are uniformly offered to all permanent state employees and unlikely to influence performance of official duties.”

Perks available to MSU Denver alumni are listed on the benefits page of the Alumni and Friends website.
