Events of Note

This coming week offers a variety of events from health care symposiums to music class to business.

Health Week
Student Activities is presenting Metro State Health Week on Wednesday, Oct 21 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Thursday, Oct 22 from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Tivoli 320. Information sessions include "Herbs for the cold and flu”, "Lecture on sexual health", "Testicular cancer and what you need to know,” and "Strengthening your immunity, staying healthy during flu season.” To learn more, contact Hong Kim at 303-556-2595 or 303-556-3399.

A Public Policy Symposium on Health Care Reform will be held on Wednesday, October 21, from 11:30am to 12:45pm in Tivoli 440. State Representatives Cindy Acree (R) and Daniel Kagan (D) will discuss health care policy and reform issues. This unique opportunity to hear from both sides of the political aisle is open to the entire Metro community. The talk on health care is the first in what will be a continuing series of policy symposiums that highlight major policy issues and debates in the metropolitan area, Colorado and the nation. The event, free and open to the public, is being sponsored by the Public Affairs and Administration Program and the Department of Political Science.

Music
One of the world's most talented and dynamic concert pianists, Olga Kern, is offering a master piano class at the King Center Concert Hall on Wednesday, October 21 from 2 to 4:30 p.m. The class will feature current students of MSCD Piano Professor Tamara Goldestein and MSCD Professor Emeritus Susan Cable. This event is free and open to the public. There is also free parking at the Tivoli Lot with the voucher available at the event. Business
On Tuesday, Oct. 27 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., Mark Martinez, regional president of Solera Bank, will deliver a presentation “Gaining Access to Capital - The Challenges and Opportunities.” The event will be held in TIV 640. It is the kick-off event for the Entrepreneur Speaker Series sponsored by the Center for Innovation, in conjunction with the Minority Business Office at the Colorado Economic Development and International Trade. The series runs through April 2010.
