A photograph exhibition, a book signing and a course on Spanish wine are among the events on campus and in the neighborhood in the coming week.

“3-Dollar Bill” photograph exhibition
An exhibition of photographs by Jonah Wright will be featured in the Auraria Library Gallery through June 30, and Wright will be present in the gallery on Tuesday, June 16, 6-8 p.m. Wright’s work offers insight into various aspects of gay life through his social and photographic eyes. The artist explains the inspiration for “3-Dollar Bill” in this way: “In the late 1990s, segments of gay communities saw a movement to take back the word ‘queer’ from those who had previously used it to oppress them. This show’s title, 3-Dollar Bill, is derived from the descriptive phrase ‘queer as a three dollar bill.’”

Available for viewing during regular library hours (http://library.auraria.edu/info/hours/), the exhibit is free and open to the public. The exhibit is sponsored by the Auraria Library and Auraria Campus World AIDS Day Committee.

Learn about Spanish wine
A three-day course on the wines of Spain will be offered on campus later this week on June 12, 13 and 15. A professional certification program on Spanish wines conducted by qualified instructors from the Wine Academy of Spain, the course provides an opportunity for both professionals and enthusiasts to learn about the wines of Spain. It includes an intensive tasting component, with more than 50 wines, as well as an in-depth section on Sherry and Andalusian wines. To learn more or to register, go to http://www.spainwines.es/. The event is being hosted by Metro State’s Department of Hospitality, Tourism and Events.

Book-signing
Psychology Professor Harvey Milkman and co-author Stanley Sunderwirth will be discussing and signing copies of their book, “Craving for Ecstasy and Natural Highs: a Positive Approach to Mood Alteration,” at the LoDo Tattered Cover on June 18 at 7:30 p.m. The book gives helpful information on how to combat compulsive pleasure-seeking tendencies in a positive light.
