An exhibition portraying the Lewis and Clark expedition from a
different angle and a car show supporting fuel conservation are among
the events coming to campus in the coming weeks.
Car show supporting fuel conservation
The “Car Show
Supporting Fuel Conservation” will be held at the Tivoli Commons on
Wednesday and Thursday, Aug. 20-21, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event
will feature a show of fuel-efficient cars, motorcycles and scooters,
as well as a presentation on the benefits of putting nitrogen in tires.
Free food samples will be offered. The event is hosted by the Metro
State’s Soccer Club and the Tri-Institutional Athletic Soccer Club.
Library features ‘Lewis and Clark’ exhibition, collateral events
“Lewis
and Clark and the Indian Country,” a traveling exhibition opening Aug.
31 at the Auraria Library, tells the story of the explorers’ historic
1804-06 expedition from a different point of view—that of the Native
Americans from more than 50 tribes who lived along their route. The
exhibition examines this monumental encounter of cultures by exploring
the past and present effects of that encounter on the lives of the
tribes which still live in the region.
The Auraria Library is sponsoring free programs and multicultural
events for the public in connection with the exhibition. The following
events will be held in the library’s Jackson Enhanced Learning Center:
• A slide show on Sakajawea by Metro State History Professor Laura McCall on Tuesday, Sept. 2, 1-3 p.m.
• A photo-opportunity program presented by Sue Raney of the High
Country Newfoundland Club featuring Quinn, a Newfoundland dog in the
role of Seaman, Lewis and Clark’s dog, on Tuesday, Sept. 9, 3-5 p.m.
• “Lewis and Clark, Doctors in the Wilderness,” presented by Bruce
Paton, M.D., professor emeritus at the University of Colorado Denver,
on Wednesday, Sept. 17, 3-5 p.m.
• A program on York, William Clark’s black slave who accompanied the expedition, on Sept. 24, 3-5 p.m.
The closing reception on Oct. 1 will feature a presentation by the
Seven Falls Indian Dancers from 3-5 p.m. Light refreshments will be
served at all events.
