Information Technology is warning Metro State e-mail users about recent e-mail messages that appear to be sent by the College but are actually from hackers.

The two senders, mscdteam@mscd.edu and support@mscd.edu, are telling people that they must “confirm” their Metro State account information or their College e-mail account will be closed.

Director of Information Security Clyde Hoadley warns faculty, staff and students that they should not respond to these fake messages. Hackers are sending these e-mails in an attempt to trick users into revealing their password so that the hackers can take over users’ e-mail, Hoadley says.

Employees or students who receive either of these messages, or any message that asks for private or confidential information (password, SSN, DOB, etc.), should delete them.

Hoadley says do not reply to the message, click on any links, open any attached files or call any phone numbers in the message.

If you have already replied with your password, you should log into your MetroConnect account and change your password immediately, Hoadley adds.
