The MSU Denver Precision Flight Team has earned an invitation to this spring’s national SAFECON competition held by the National Intercollegiate Flying Association.
The team, coached by Assistant Professor Tanya Gatlin (’96) and Affiliate Professor Zach Pegg, qualified by taking second place in the 2012 Rocky Mountain Regional SAFECON competition Oct. 24-27 in Provo, Utah. Seven schools were represented at the regional event. MSU Denver finished ahead of the host school, Utah Valley University, and behind the U.S. Air Force Academy.
This is the third consecutive year that the Precision Flight Team has gone to the nationals. They placed 14th in the 2012 competition at Kansas State University. In 2011, the team was awarded the Loening Trophy, considered the most prestigious collegiate aviation award in the country, at Ohio State University.
