Jan. 31 event to focus on climate change
Jan 30, 2008

Focus the Nation, a national movement on college campuses attempting to focus the nation's attention on the subject of climate change, will hold a conference Thursday, Jan. 31, 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m., in St. Cajetan’s Center.

The program kicks off with a live version of Al Gore's "An Inconvenient Truth" slideshow. A presentation of "Solutions to the Problem" follows at 11 a.m.

"Responding to Climate Change – From Academia to Public Policy," an hour-long panel discussion at 11:30 a.m., rounds out the conference. The panelists, who will take questions from the audience, are:

•Anu Ramaswami: UCD professor of engineering and program director of the UCD IGERT program in Sustainable Urban Infrastructure
•Bill Becker: executive director of the Presidential Climate Action Project
•Susan Innis: Colorado Carbon Fund program manager in the Governor's Energy Office
•Camille DeMarco-Hay: From the Climate Project
•Jarrett Smith: UCD sustainability officer

Organizers strongly urge professors to either bring their classes to the event, or ask them to attend.

In addition, a group of professors has committed to spending a portion of their class time to a teach-in, where they focus on climate shift and how it applies to or affects their area of expertise.

For questions, please contact UCD research assistant Andy Pattison at Andrew.pattison@cudenver.edu.
