2013 Homecoming: Rowdy gets adventurous

The MSU Denver community is invited to take part in the Excellent Adventures of Super Rowdy, the theme for this year’s Homecoming festivities, Feb. 4-9.

The ever-popular bonfire returns along with the Battle of the Bands, the MSU Denver Amazing Race and Spirit Day.

Perhaps Rowdy’s most excellent adventure will come on Friday and Saturday nights, Feb. 8-9, when the women’s and men’s basketball teams take on Colorado School of Mines on Friday and Colorado Christian on Saturday. As of today, the men’s team remains undefeated ranked No. 1 in the National Association of Basketball Coaches NCAA Division II top-25 poll.

On Saturday, Feb. 9, the MSU Denver Alumni Association will hold its annual Alumni Awards Program. The free event is 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. in the Tivoli Turnhalle. RSVP by Jan. 30 at awards.

The Distinguished Alumnus Award will go to Jerry Hilderbrand (’74, accounting), a nationally recognized forensic accountant. The Making A Difference Award will be given to Dusti Gurule (’96, Chicano Studies), whose Latina Initiative works to engage Colorado Latina voters through education and outreach. Rowena Alegría (’91, Spanish), director of communications for Denver Mayor Michael Hancock, will receive the Giving Back Award.

Six other awards, including three Dean’s Honor Alumnus Awards, will be given.
