Faculty and staff continue to receive recognition for their achievements and their scholarly contributions, increasing Metro State’s visibility and reputation in academia.
Professor of Management Madison Holloway and Visiting Professor Bill Carnes have had a paper titled "Utilizing the New Approach to Diversity in Teaching Classes on Workforce Diversity" accepted for presentation at the American Society of Business and Behavioral Sciences 12th International Conference being held in London, Aug. 7-9, 2009.
Metro State’s Teaching with Primary Sources (TPS), directed by Peggy O’Neill-Jones, along with the Denver Newspaper Agency has received the 2009 Jury Commendation for The World Young Reader Prize.
The award from the World Association of Newspaper and News Publishers (WAN-IFRA) in the Newspapers in Education category, honored the “When History Happens” project for creating a hands-on experience for fourth through twelfth grade students during the 2008 Democratic National Convention (DNC).
Through help from TPS, teachers were able to make lessons plans comparing the 2008 DNC to the 1908 DNC by being able to look at primary sources from old Denver newspapers. The TPS program also pushed the importance of researching primary sources from the Library of Congress in order for students to develop their own opinions about historical events.
The awards will be given at the 8th World Young Reader Conference and Expo from Sept. 27-30 in Prague, Czech Republic.
