The 20 faculty and staff selected to participate in this academic
year’s MetroLeads, the College’s Leadership Forum, got a jump-start on
the year with a retreat July 25-26 in Winter Park.
Now in its third year, MetroLeads provides a year-long,
intellectually stimulating career exploration and discovery experience
for faculty, adjunct faculty and classified and exempt staff who have
demonstrated exceptional promise in contributing to excellence at Metro
State. Forum participants, called fellows, engage in wide-ranging
discussions and learning activities related to critical issues and
opportunities that arise in leading and managing the higher education
enterprise.
The fellows are always joined by College administrators at their
retreat and monthly all-day forums. Those who attend include President
Stephen and Ruthie Jordan; Legal Counsel Lee Combs; Interim Associate
to the President for Diversity Myron Anderson; Vice Presidents Natalie
Lutes (administration and finance), Carl Powell (information
technology), Carrie Besnette (institutional advancement), Linda Curran
(provost and academic affairs) and Kathy MacKay (student services); and
Assistant Director of Admissions Paul Cesare, who is the program’s
forum director.
Cesare, a self-confessed “leadership junkie,” told the group about
how he and Ruthie Jordan came to establish the program in 2006 as a way
of “inspiring change agents… to help Metro State achieve preeminence.”
Cesare thanked Director of the Center for Innovation Mick Jackowski
and past and continual participants Camille Fangue, Tat Sang So and
Kamran Sahami “for their valuable individual efforts in contributing to
the production of a highly effective, thought-provoking retreat.”
The
MetroLeads class of 2008-09, whom Cesare describes as having an
“outstanding level of intelligence, motivation, civility and
collaboration,” is as follows:
