Hundreds of students cheered in response to President Stephen Jordan’s popular greeting “It’s a great day to be a Roadrunner” during the College’s 45th Anniversary Birthday Party last Thursday at Tivoli Commons. The cheers continued when Jordan unveiled the new look for Rowdy, the College’s mascot.
Jordan thanked both the Athletic Department and the Student Government Assembly (SGA) for their work in producing the new look. “What a great emblem of Metro State’s athletic success,” Jordan said in acknowledging the Athletics’ many national championships.
He also took students down memory lane – perhaps for their parents – when he listed some historical pieces that they may not be familiar with, including the fact that many people of a certain age know Clint Eastwood not as a sensitive director, but as Dirty Harry.
Faculty and staff were also in attendance for the celebration.
"For being just 45 years old, Metro State has become intricately involved with the Denver metro environment,” said Deputy Provost Luis Torres, who also commented on the size and complexity of the College. “The student size is one example. It is a lot bigger than most institutions, no matter the age."
The most diverse higher education institution in the state is not lost on SGA Director of Student Relations Ian Brown, a junior studying mechanical engineering. "I love the culturally diverse campus. Everyone here has their own individual style."
To top it off, ’99 marketing alumnus Sean Moore made an appearance with the Denver Cupcake Truck, sharing a rainbow of goodies for the crowd.
