Sen. Clinton rally set for tomorrow

Sen. Hillary Clinton will be at Metro State Oct. 23 for a campaign rally.

Democratic Presidential candidate Sen. Hillary Clinton will be at Metro State tomorrow (Tuesday, Oct. 23) for a campaign rally on the Lawrence St. Mall between St. Cajetan’s Center and the flagpole near the Plaza Building. The rally, which is free and open to the public, will move to the PE Events Center if the weather is inclement.

“I believe it is a critical part of education—and indeed, of democracy—to expose our students, faculty and staff to many voices expressing differing points of view,” said Metro State President Stephen Jordan, adding that he’s pleased a second presidential candidate has chosen Metro State as a campaign rally location. “I hope this will serve as a springboard for candidates from all parties to speak at Metro State,” Jordan said.

Gates for the 4 p.m. event will open at 3 p.m. Entertainment by Big Head Todd and the Monsters will start at 3:30 p.m. (A sound check will be performed at 11 a.m.) Sen. Clinton is expected to speak at approximately 4:30 p.m.

The audience will be limited to 2,000. Tickets are required but will not guarantee admission, as participants will be allowed in on a first-come, first-served basis. Tickets are available at http://www.hillaryclinton.com/denver and in the Tivoli Student Union near the Turnhalle.

Barricades will be set up around the mall, and participants will be required to go through a security check.

Sponsored by the Metro State Political Science Association, Sen. Clinton’s appearance will also feature welcome remarks by Jordan, House Speaker Andrew Romanoff and former Denver mayor Wellington Webb, who is co-chair of Clinton’s national campaign.

Tuesday’s rally will be the second time Clinton has been to Metro State. As First Lady, she visited the Golda Meir House in 1996 when it was moved to the Auraria campus. Also, in June of 2001, Political Science Professor Norm Provizer and students in his Washington Semester program met the recently elected senator in Washington D.C. to present her with the 2000 Golda Meir Center Leadership Award.
