Administrators to move to Writer Square
Jul 15, 2009

Metro State faculty and staff are packing their bags to make room for learning.

Selected nonacademic departments currently housed in the Administration Building are slated to move to the Writer Square building at 1512 Larimer St. beginning July 31. “Administration and Finance and Institutional Advancement are moving out of the Administration Building … to provide swing space for science faculty during the renovation of their existing building,” says Sean Nesbitt, Metro State’s facilities planner. “The second reason is that after the science faculty move out, we will begin renovating the Administration Building for faculty offices and classrooms.”

The departments moving to Writer Square are scheduled to occupy the upper floors of the Student Success Building upon its completion in April 2012.

The Division of Administration and Finance will be housed on the eighth floor and the Division of Institutional Advancement will occupy a portion of the ninth floor. Exact room numbers for each department and employee are still being finalized. Thanks to help from the Division of Information Technology and Auraria, employees will have phones and computer stations set up on the Monday following the moves.

Nesbitt says the Writer Square building will have conference space available, but adds that the large conference room in the Administration Building (AD 575) will remain available to use for large meetings as necessary. “We do have a free parking pass for people who drive back and forth for meetings,” Nesbitt adds. “Visitors (to Writer Square) will pay city rates either in the garage, on the street or they can walk.”

After the moves to Writer Square are completed at the end of August, academic departments currently in the Science Building will move into the vacated space on Sept. 12 and 19. These departments will remain in the Administration Building until fall 2010 when the Science Building renovations are complete. The Administration Building will then be renovated to create classroom and faculty office space.

“We’re doing it for the benefit of the campus – trying to meet our academic needs sooner rather than later and (the move to Writer Square) will be giving us a good downtown presence,” Nesbitt says.

The following administrative departments will move to Writer Square on:

July 31
Human Resources
Accounting Services and Payroll
Vice President of Administration and Finance
Office of Institutional Research

Aug. 7-8

The following academic departments will move into the Administration Building on:
