Summer enrollment drops slightly
Jun 18, 2008

As of Census Date, summer 2008 total headcount decreased by 1.1 percent over Census last year. Total Full-Year FTES, not including the common pool enrollment, decreased by 2.8 percent.

Associate Vice President for Enrollment Services Judi Diaz Bonacquisti points out that because the number of students taking classes over the summer is relatively small, a change in just a few students has a huge impact on percentage.

“We are really talking about a difference of about 80 students between this summer and last summer,” she said. “Nevertheless, the College needs to comprehensively serve our continuing and new students and not be reliant on only new students to maintain enrollment semester to semester.”

Students of color up
While the total number of students went down for the summer semester, the percentage of students who are people of color increased to 25.4 percent, compared to 24.9 percent last year. All students-of-color groups increased, except for Black or African American, Non-Hispanic, which decreased 6.0 percent (31 students).

The following classifications showed increases:

• Juniors – 3.3 percent
• Seniors – 3 percent
• Licensure Only – 5.6 percent
• Continuing students – 15.7 percent

The following groups showed decreases:

• Freshmen – 7.2 percent
• Sophomores – 4.5 percent
• Non-degree seeking – 2.2 percent
