Teaching with Primary Sources receives $535,000 in grants
May 14, 2008

Metro State’s Teaching with Primary Sources (TPS) program has received two grants from the Library of Congress to re-fund its two projects for one year each.

The TPS – Regional project, started in June of 2007, was awarded $285,000. The TPS – Colorado project, which has been operating since 2004, was awarded $250,000.

TPS’s purpose is to train educators at all levels to use primary source materials from the Library of Congress. Metro State was one of only 10 higher-education institutions nationwide to receive the initial four-year grant. Last year, the program was selected as one of three regional centers. Assigned to the Mountain/Plains region, TPS is working in Colorado, Montana, New Mexico, North and South Dakota, Utah and Wyoming.

In addition to its regular workshops and programs, TPS is a partner in the When History Happens project, a program revolving around Denver’s 1908 and 2008 Democratic National Conventions. To read more about the project, go to http://www.mscd.edu/~collcom/artman/publish/whh_twv5051608.shtml.
