The Web Services team has developed a way for faculty and staff to
enhance their profiles on Metro State’s Web site (www.mscd.edu), with
each person having the capability of updating his or her profile as
well as easier access to others’ profiles.
“When several of the Faculty Fellows for Technology discussed
working with faculty on a personal Web page several years ago, we
realized the need for a very stable, professional Web page—one that
faculty members could easily update without security being an issue,”
said German Professor Lawrence Glatz, who chaired the Technology
Initiatives Committee until leaving recently for Germany on a one-year
Fulbright Scholarship.
Glatz said that the enhanced profile feature is also a response to
the Adjunct Report, which stressed that instructors who are not tenured
or tenure track need to be integrated into departments. “An enhanced
profile will help them to show what they do and be recognized as the
important faculty that they are,” he said.
Currently, every faculty and staff member has a basic profile (name, department, phone and address) available through the Search People
function. As of this semester, enhanced faculty profiles now also
automatically include the courses professors usually teach and the
courses they’re now teaching.
Changing one’s profile from the basic to the more detailed simply requires clicking on a new link on your basic profile, View Profile, then Edit My Profile. Your MetroConnect user name and password are required to use the Edit My Profile function. In Edit My Profile,
you can add everything from your teaching philosophy to your office
hours to a photo. Faculty and staff are encouraged, though not
required, to update their profiles.
The other improvement is the complete faculty directory and complete staff directory links.
These links go to the alphabetical listing of all faculty and staff.
There you can click on a person’s name and access his or her profile in
its most current form.
