Jul 1, 2009

Two Metro State student-athletes had respectable showings in the preliminaries at the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Ore., on Thursday.

Anthony Luna finished 24th out of 36 runners in the 800m. He finished in 1:49.59, less than two seconds off of first place professional runner Christian Smith's time of 1:47.84. Luna finished sixth among college competitors and was the only NCAA Division II runner in the competition.

Freshman Scott Ingram placed 14th out of 22 runners in the 1500m at the Junior Championships on Saturday. He missed qualifying for the finals by two places.

The only Division II runner, Ingram ran the 1500m in 3:56.73, less than two seconds off of a qualifying time for the finals. Professional runner Blake Shaw won the junior competition in 3:50.75. Ingram was 10th among 15 college runners.

The championships concluded on Sunday.
