Three Metro State athletic teams are ranked among the top 15 teams nationally in the NCAA Division II.
Women’s volleyball team spikes higher, now ranks 14th in the country
The volleyball team has moved up to No. 14 in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association NCAA Division II Top 25 poll released on Sept. 7. The Roadrunners came in ranked 23rd last week, their first appearance in the poll since 2005 (see http://www.mscd.edu/~collcom/artman/publish/volleyball_twv7090209.shtml). Metro State's ranking of 14th is its highest since being ranked No. 11 in 2003. This week is just the fifth time since then that the Roadrunners have appeared in the top 25.
Metro State, with a 7-1 overall record this season, lost its only match so far this season to top-ranked and two-time defending national champion Concordia on Friday night. The Roadrunners open up conference play this weekend at Colorado School of Mines on Friday evening.
Women’s soccer holds onto No. 3 spot nationally
The women's soccer team held on to the No. 3 spot in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Top 25 poll released on Sept 1. They have now been ranked third in the past three national polls after finishing the 2008 season at the same spot. Metro State (2-0 overall) will host No. 15 Minnesota State, Mankato at 5 p.m. on Friday and unranked Winona State (Minn.) on Sunday at noon.
Men’s soccer kicks it up to No. 13
Meanwhile, the men's soccer team has climbed up to No. 13 in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America Top 25 poll released on Sept. 1. The Roadrunners were ranked No. 21 in this year's preseason poll.Metro State (1-0 overall) will begin a seven-game road trip against No. 21 Midwestern State (Texas) on Friday.
