Outdoor
Adventure Center (OAC)
Campus Recreation presents the Outdoor Adventure Center, a
tri-institutional, student fee supported outdoor education and leadership
program for the students, faculty, staff and guests of CCD, UCD, MSCD
and AHEC.
It
is the mission of the Outdoor Adventure Center
to support the missions, values, and goals of the Auraria Campus Institutions
by providing high quality and innovative co-curricular adventure based
experiences that foster personal, academic and professional success.
Outdoor
Adventure Diversity Statement
The staff of Outdoor Adventure encourage an inclusive,
open and welcoming atmosphere by designing and offering challenging programs
for all skill levels. We endeavor to maintain a program that includes
and welcomes people of all races, creeds, ethnicities, genders, sexual
orientations, learning styles, economic levels, ages, regions of origin
and physical abilities.
We recognize
that all participants bring a level of experience, skill and ability.
We will not make assumptions about others’ ability, interest or
experience in the outdoors.
This statement
is the result of the collaborative efforts of the Outdoor Adventure staff.
The Five
OAC Program Areas:
Technical Adventure Skills - TECH activities are hard
skills development and instructional experiences including kayaking, rock
climbing, backpacking and more. The TECH program area also facilitates
recreational activities such as skiing and hiking for students, faculty,
staff and their guests.
Adventure
Leadership Programs - ALP provides student and staff groups with
activities including low ropes elements, initiative, problem solving and
teambuilding activities.
Service
Learning Programs - SLP activities support student and institutional
learning outcomes and benefits the community and wilderness by providing
outdoor focused service and experiential learning opportunities. This
student focused program provides adventure based opportunities for community
building, civic engagement, learning and teaching.
Webskills
- WS is an online, Web based learning asset developed to support
participant success and enhance face to face experiences by providing
ongoing access to image, animation and text based instruction.
OAC
Rental Shop and Office - Make adventure based activities affordable
and accessible to Auraria Campus members by providing rental equipment,
trip planning resources and information.
Funding
OAC Programs are funded by student fees and self generated
revenues. Most outings and activities are designed to either break even
or generate revenues to help offset expenses.
