Overview
The First Year Program began on the Metro State campus in 1986 with the purpose of assisting first year college students adjust to the demands of college life. It's not exactly high school anymore and sometimes the acclimation process feels overwhelming, even a little scary.
Don't sweat it. The First Year Program is a class that you take, called a seminar, as well as access to departments that provides campus orientation, career guidance, academic advising, and peer support. We want to help you make the transition to higher education, and we've been helping students do that for over fifteen years. If you make the transition successfully, you're more likely to graduate with the degree that you want.
The First Year Program introduces you to critical reading, writing, and thinking skills while also encouraging you to present your ideas in an open forum. We talk about real stuff in our classrooms - issues that affect you. Here are some examples:
- Higher Education
- Careers
- Money
- Marriage
- Family
- Sex
- Gender
- Race
