About the Safe Zone
The Safe Zone Project is designed to educate students, staff, faculty, and administrators
about the experiences, concerns, and issues of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered (GLBT)
* members of our community. The project encourages open dialogue and the sharing
of information in order to create a supportive environment for diverse members of the Auraria
Campus community. On a personal level, the project provides a space for participants to examine
their own values, beliefs, and reactions to issues relating to sexual identity or orientation.
Based on a model created by the University of New Hampshire, the Safe Zone Project was initiated
on the Auraria Campus in the spring of 1996. Participation in the project involves attending a workshop
or seminar. Workshops can be tailored to meet the specific needs and time concerns of interested
departments, groups, or organizations. See links below for the two types of Safe Zone workshops.
-> Safe Zone Training for any student, staff or faculty gives a general overview of
GLBT issues.

-> Safe Zone Seminar: Tools for the Classroom is specifically designed for faculty and the issues
they face in the classroom environment.
