Mission & Goals

Mission:

The purpose of all areas of study in the Human Performance and Sport (HPS) Department is to provide students with a foundation of knowledge regarding the enhancement of one's health, fitness, and quality of life. Whether you're interested in working with children, adults, the elderly, elite athletes, or individuals with disabilities in a formal (school) or informal setting, there is an emphasis for each that will meet your needs.

HPS Departmental Goals:

  1. To gather data for staffing decisions
  2. To utilize an external advisory board for decision-making
  3. To determine the need for an HPL coordinator
  4. To ensure consistent and efficient department leadership
  5. To retain students enrolled in HPS programs
  6. To recruit students on campus into HPS programs and classes
  7. To develop courses using alternative formats
  8. To conduct curricula revisions
  9. To work with related departments
  10. Determine most effective times/days for course offerings
  11. To secure funding for professional development
  12. To ensure Faculty receive support for teaching
  13. To offer educational and service opportunities to the community
