Mission Statement and Goals

Mission

The mission of the Department of Human Services is to prepare students for careers in the helping professsions: assisting individuals, couples, and families in meeting the challenges of living throughout the life cycle. The core curriculum combines theory and practice in assessment, prevention, and intervention of mental health concerns. Specialized education is offered in addition intervention of mental health concerns. Specialized education is offered in addiction intervention theory and techniques, domestic violence, counseling, high-risk youth intervention, prevention and counseling, and nonprofit organization administration.

Goals

The major goals of the Department of Human Services are:

  • To contribute to the mission and goals of the College and the School of Professional Studies.
  • To provide degree programs and emphasis areas that meet the needs of the human services and nonprofit communities.
  • To provide students with the current professional knowledge and skills to succeed at a career in helping or nonprofit management professions or to continue to graduate education.
  • To provide leadership, academic, technical and professional expertise to individuals and organizations in the human services and nonprofit communities.
