What is Upward Bound?

The High School Upward Bound program located at the Metropolitan State College of Denver is a federally funded program designed to assist low income and first generation college-bound high school students. The HSUB Program in Denver has been hosted since 1973 by MSCD, one of the nation's premiere urban colleges.

Goals of the Program

Successful students will accomplish the following goals:

  • Develop the necessary skills and motivation to complete high school and to pursue post-secondary education.
  • Demonstrate measurable improvement on state standardized tests
  • Gain a sense of career possibilities and opportunities based on seminars, research projects, field trips, and on-campus internships.
  • Understand and meet Colorado Higher Education Admissions Requirements (HEAR)
The HSUB Program consists of an academic year, a summer module, and a bridge program for the college bound high school graduates. All program participants are involved in monthly social, cultural, and educational activities during the academic year component, and activities weekly during the summer component.
