Industrial Design is consistently among the top growing fields according to Newsweek magazine's annual career review. Every product that is to be mass-produced; computers, inkpens, tennis shoes, backpacks, stereo equipment, furniture, etc. must first be designed. Graduates are employed within either design consultancies, or in-house design teams. The consultancies solicite design projects from a wide variety of clients. In this scenario, you may be working on a table lamp one week, and a tennis racket the next. These positions offer the most diverse range of products, and are generally the most sought after. As an in-house designer you are a member of a team that designs products for only the company for which you work. In this scenario you may be assigned to a particular product line, such as kitchen appliances, for which you will design a relatively narrow range of products. These positions offer more security, have more stable working hours, and offer slighty better pay and benefits. They may not offer the excitement of working for a consultancy
