Basic FTP Instructions

"These are basic FTP instructions and you must be online with your ISP to use them."

  1. Click on "Start".
  2. Click on "Run" Type in ftp clem.mscd.edu. Click on "OK" Log in with your CLEM userid and CLEM password
  3. After the logon type" bin" and then depress (Enter). You should see: ftp>typeset to I, now type pwd [enter] this will tell you what directory you are in on clem
  4. To change to a different directory type cd newname (replace newname with the directory name).
  5. Now to transfer the file from your computer to clem you must change to the local directory (folder) on your PC. Lets assume that you want to transfer a file located in you're "webstuff" folder on your C: drive. You would type lcd c:\webstuff [Enter]. You should get a message: Local Directory now c:\webstuff.
  6. Now let's suppose you want to transfer a file named homework.doc to the clem server. Type mput homework.doc [Enter] you will get the following message: mput homework.doc? enter a Y for yes, to verify that you do want to transfer this file. You should get a message: Transfer Complete.
