Marianne Brandt war born in Chemnitz as Marianne Liebe and married the Norwegian painter Erik Brandt in 1919, whom she divorced in 1935. She traveled and worked in a lot of different countries, such as Norway, France, and China.
Marianne Brandt studied painting at the "Großherzoglich-Sächsischen Hochschule für Bildende Kunst" in Weimar and sculpting at the "Hochschule für Malerei" in Weimar. She was at Bauhaus from 1924-1929 and took courses from Albers, Moholy, Klee, and Kandinsky. She lived in Paris from 1926-1927 and received her Bauhaus diploma in 1929. After the war, Brandt worked as an assistant professor at the "Hochschule für Bildende Künste" in Dresden, and, from 1951-1954, she was a collaborator at the "Institut für Industrieformgestaltung" in Berlin.

Marianne Brandt wurde als Marianne Liebe in Chemnitz geboren und heiratete 1919 den norwegischen Maler Erik Brandt, von dem sie sich im Jahre 1935 scheiden ließ. Sie reiste und arbeitete in vielen verschiedenen Ländern, wie beispielsweise Norwegen, Frankreich und China.
Marianne Brandt studierte Malerei an der Großherzoglich-Sächsischen Hochschule für Bildende Kunst in Weimar und Bildhauerei an der Hochschule für Malerei in Weimar. Von 1924-1929 war sie am Bauhaus und belegte dort Kurse von Albers, Moholy, Klee und Kandinsky. Von 1926-1954 lebte sie in Paris und erhielt ihr Bauhaus-Diplom im Jahre 1929. Nach dem Krieg arbeitete Brandt als Dozentin an der Hochschule für Bildende Künste in Dresden und von 1951-1954 war sie Mitarbeiterin am Institut für Industrieformgestaltung in Berlin.
