Gryphius beherrschte ungefähr 10 Sprachen und wurde ein großer Lyriker des deutschen Barock. Seine Lyrik wird von tiefem Pessimismus geprägt. Er starb am 16. Juli 1664 in Glogau.
He was born on the 2nd of October, 1616 in Glogau in Schlesien. He had a difficult childhood during the Thirty years war. Gryphius could speak circa 10 languages and became a great poet and playwright in the German Barock. His lyrics were full of deep pessimism. He died of the 16th of July, 1664, in Glogau.
