Study Abroad

Two options exist: to go abroad with a program offered by another institution, or to go abroad on an MSCD-sponsored program. Programs offered by MSCD vary by department and year, and only those of the Department of Modern Languages are described below.

Universidad de Santiago de Compostela, Spain

Cuernavaca, Mexico
The MSCD Language and Culture Institute a semester program. Students have the option to earn from 6 to 15 credits. Courses also fulfill the General Studies Level I requirements. Living accommodations are with families and all meals are provided. A special series on Mexican life and culture, including field trips to archeolological and historical sites, is part of the programs. Guadalajara, Mexico
The MSCD Language and Culture Institute offers three semester programs: Spring, Summer and Fall. Students have the option to earn from 6 to 15 credits. Mexico and the Yucatan
The MSCD Language and Culture Institute offers this one credit program for two weeks each January. The cost is approximately $1,800.00, plus application fee, and includes airfare, room, transfers and tuition. Please contact Professor Curti at 556-2908 for more information. Application deadline is in November.

France
MSCD often offers a 4 week, intensive French program on the Riviera in Hyeres, France, at ELFCA. The goal is to study the French language in an authentic setting, interacting both socially and culturally with French speaking peoples. The estimated cost is $2,515.00 for 3 credits (plus $200.00 for excursions) and does not include airfare. The estimated cost is $3,030.00 for 6 credits (excursions included) and does not include airfare. Students live with a family, and receive breakfast and dinner there. The school has a wonderful setting with garden and cafeteria; one can rent a bicycle or take the bus to the beach.

Cost will vary on the number of MSCD credits (3 or 6), airfare of your choice, and optional excursions. Hyeres is a most delightful town of 60,000 people, not far from Toulon and is adjacent to the beaches. Classes are daily (8:30-12:30) and there are two weekly one-hour workshops in the afternoon. Germany
The cost for this program, which is offered some Summer semesters, will be approximately $3000.00. This trip includes 6 credits MSCD tuition, a single room at the Academie Klausenhof, all books and materials, three meals a day, and all excursions with admission fees to a variety of places. Air fare is not included in the program price. This program takes place in the Academie Klausenhof in the North Western part of the Federal Republic of Germany, on the border of Holland. Students will attend a three-week intensive language and culture course. Classes will be held on weekdays, but excursions lead by the German faculty of Klausenhof will take the students to other sites such as Amsterdam, Bonn, Cologne, Xanten, Duisburg and several others. The price of all activities is included in the on-site tuition and fees. This included bus travel, boar rides, museums, cathedrals, water castles and many others.

MSCD also offers credit for study independently at any Goethe Institute located in Germany. The costs vary and do not including airfare and personal expenses. Participants can live in international dormitories and participate in special activities of cultural interest. Contact Professor Glatz at glatz@mscd.edu with any questions.
