You’re a tested woman. That’s what ma says
when she’s perking me up
I’m tested. God’s done some way of test on me.
I’m a tested woman. Ma won’t answer when I ask
Who all passes, what if I didn’t pass?

And you ask, “How does it feel
How does it feel when you can’t see?”

When you are waist deep in me, sweating on the sheets
and want to know
How it feels,
I’ll tell you I was almost asleep…

A man can be without a country
A woman, without a child
I can’t be neither tonight, somewhere tonight
I’ve got half a man buried like a child in me,
No home to keep, but a mouth to feed

And you want to know what if feels like when you can’t see
I’ll tell you the truth, it hurts me.
It kills me.
