Role and Mission

provides comprehensive coursework leading to a B.A. in political science. Students must focus on either American (United States) politics or international/comparative politics. Political science courses provide students with an understanding of the American (United States) political system and processes, of nation-state behavior, and of comparative political systems and methods.
enables students to obtain a minor in political science or public administration. The public administration minor prepares students for government service or, for those already employed, a chance to upgrade their skills.
promotes political understanding and political discussion within the college community and the general community at large.
offers courses needed by other majors, e.g., behavioral science, criminal justice and criminology, and business.
provides General Studies courses for all MSCD students.
prepares students for post-baccalaureate study in political science or in a profession, e.g., law.
offers courses for the teacher licensure programs.
offers minors in Native American Studies and Public Administration.
A certificate in public administration is also offered.

In that MSCD is located near the state capitol of Colorado, a broad-based liberal arts political science program fits appropriately the role and mission and the operational mission of the college. MSCD assisted the Auraria Higher Education Center in obtaining a grant to save the Golda Meir House, move it to the Auraria campus, and restore it. It currently serves as a museum, conference center, and the location of MSCD's Golda Meir Center for Political Leadership. The Center gives international visibility to MSCD.
