Computer Information Systems Department Earns ABET Accreditation Metro State’s Computer Information Systems (CIS) program has become one of the first of only a small number of CIS programs in the country to have earned accreditation from ABET, the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology. CIS joins the College’s computer science and three engineering technology programs (civil, electrical and mechanical) as ABET-accredited programs.

“It was a team effort,” said Department Chair Abel Moreno. “All 16 of the department’s full-time faculty participated in varying degrees.”

ABET is composed of four accreditation commissions: applied science, computer, engineering and technology. It began accrediting information systems programs in 2002-03. As of October 2006, only 20 of an estimated 1,000 or more programs in the United States had earned accreditation. The University of Nebraska at Omaha is the only other institution in the western U.S. with ABET accreditation.

Notice of 60 Credit Hour Advising Hold
Attention: All Students Majoring in Business B. S. Programs
ACC, CIS, FIN, MGT, and MKT

The School of Business wants to help each student obtain a Bachelor degree in a timely and effective manner. Each semester every student that is about to complete 60 Credit Hours is required to receive advising from the department of his or her academic major. The primary focus of this advising session will be to review your Curriculum, Advising, and Program Planning (CAPP) Compliance Report for your major.

Are you required to see an advisor before registering for the Summer or Fall terms?

• If you have completed less then 60 credit hours and the courses you are now taking will put your total credit hours at 60 or more, then you must see an advisor in your major department before you can register for Summer or Fall classes. However, if you have already received thorough advising from a faculty member and are fully aware of the degree requirements, you may request an advising waiver by completing an official form available in your major department.

• If you have already completed 60 credit hours or more hours before the Spring term, you are not required to seek advising before registration. However, it is highly recommended that you see your major advisor at least once each academic year during your junior and senior years.

If this policy applies to you, a notice of the advising hold will appear in your registration permit for the term. After you have been advised or completed the advising waiver request form, the advising hold will be removed.
