You will notice that there are many areas that give you the choice of taking a course in your minor, General Studies or Electives. It is strongly suggested that you complete your General Studies courses early in your college career. (Many courses require that you have completed Level I General Studies courses before you are allowed to register.)

You must complete a minimum of 120 semester hours to obtain a degree at MSCD; 40 of these must be upper-division (3000 or 4000-level). General Studies requirements include: Freshman Composition (6 hrs); Mathematics (3 hrs); Communications (3 hrs); Historical (3 hrs.); Arts and Letters (6 hrs.); Social Sciences (6 hrs.); Natural Science (6 hrs.); a Multicultural requirement (3 hrs.) and a Senior Experience.

Consult your MSCD Course Catalog for specific college and General Studies requirements. You do not want to waste your time and money by taking unnecessary courses. It is important to make an appointment with an advisor in the Advising Center (556-3680) and with an advisor in your minor and your major. Anthropology professors’ names, office hours and phone numbers are posted on the Anthropology bulletin board or you may call the Anthropology Office [556-3167] for information about office hours.

This plan assumes that the student is an entering Freshman with no transfer credits; it also assumes that the student will take a minimum of 15 credit hours per semester in Fall and Spring only. Students who plan to attend Summer sessions and who have credits transferred to MSCD will be able to finish in less than four years. Students who take fewer semester hours and/or plan to add programs (e.g., licensure) will need more than four years to complete a program of study.
