Assessment for New Students
  • Reading Assessment
  • Writing Assessment
  • Math Assessment
  • The Assessment and Testing Center at MSCD administers assessment exams in three areas: Writing, Mathematics, and Reading. Students must take all three exams in order to fulfill the minimum requirements for entrance to college level courses, or must be able to provide adequate ACT Scores.

Please note that the scores from these exams are used to assist advisors and students in selecting appropriate course work. Click the links above to view sample test information and exam location. Calculators are not allowed on the math test. Repeating an assessment test is limited and you may be required to take a remedial course before retesting is allowed.

Effective July 1,2002 , MSCD students must use Accuplacer for placement into general studies courses.
Students who have taken the ACT or SAT have sub scores at or above the following are exempt from the respective assessments:

    ACT Reading 17 SAT 430
    ACT English 18 SAT 440
    ACT Math 19 SAT 460

Please note that ACT and SAT scores are valid for only five years.

    No appointment necessary
For assessment testing you do not need an appointment. Students may take the assessments during our normal office hours 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

    Allocate enough time
The assessments are not timed and take approximately 30 minutes each. Please plan on 2 hours for all three assessments.

    Retesting
Each students is allowed only one retest. After the second test you are placed into coresponding courses. Review of practice materials will help ensure proper placement.
