Tennis men sweep weekend trio, women lose 3 of 4

Both the men’s and women’s teams swept Colorado Christian 9-0 on Sept. 15 at Auraria Field. Riley Meyer, Drew Maccholz, Mark Milner, David Scott, Ricky Stowell and Sean Carlton each notched wins in singles and doubles play.

Mitra Hirad, April Hirad, Miriam Evangelista, Alecia Jenkins and Katie Reitz led the women’s team with singles and doubles wins in the ’Runners sweep of the Cougars.

The same five men repeated the previous day’s performance in Metro’s 9-0 sweep of Mesa State, while the Roadrunners women lost 6-3. April Hirad was the lone singles winner for the women.

The Metro women had a doubleheader Sept. 16, facing Fort Hays in an afternoon match. April Hirad and Evangelista were the sole singles winners in a 7-2 loss.

Against CSU-Pueblo, the Metro men scored a weekend trifecta, as the six starting singles players swept the Thunderwolves for their third perfect victory in as many matches.

The Roadrunners women dropped their third straight match, narrowly losing 5-4 to the Thunderwolves.

Tia Mahoney and Jenkins, and April Hirad and Reitz, took the first and third doubles matches, but Hirad and Evangelista were able to win in singles play.
