Kylee Hanavan scored two minutes into Metro’s Sept. 22
game at Auraria Field, and it quickly turned into a family affair
as seven other Roadrunners notched goals against dismal Division-III
Coe College in a 10-0 victory.
Metro clobbered the Kohawks with a 44-1 shot differential which
had Coe (4-3-1) constantly on the defensive end of the non-conference
match. Of the 17 Metro forwards and midfielders, all but five
were involved in scoring, either with a goal or an assist.
“Everybody wants to play and when they get an opportunity
they’re
going at it,” head coach Danny Sanchez said. “Nobody’s
going to relax and that’s the key.”
Hanavan led the
team with two goals and three assists and now has 37 points on
the season. Her 3.7 points per game average
is nearly one and a half points higher than the closest competitor,
Mesa State’s Lauren Sell (2.22 ppg). As a team, the ’Runners
have scored nearly twice as many points (13.09 ppg) as the closest
RMAC competitor, Mesa State (6.67 ppg).
“It’s kind of hard when you play teams like this
because you don’t get much of a workout,” said forward
Justine Montoya, who scored Metro’s third goal in the 40th
minute. “It’s
better when you get more challenging teams throughout the season.”
Forwards
Katie Kilbey, Justine Montoya and Becca Mays, midfielders Amira
Ebel and Vanessa Mais, and defensive back Brooke Kiefer
all contributed goals in the win.
“We’re coming out strong and playing good every single game,
and you can’t ask for any more than that,” Mais said. “We
want our fitness to be good for further down the road when we
go into the tournament.” |
