Riley Meyer advances to final 16 at ITF Regional

The Metro State men’s tennis team played at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s North Central Region Championships Sept. 29-Oct.1 at Northwest Missouri State in Maryville, Mo.
The Roadrunners compiled a 6-9 record for the tournament, with the lone bright spot being junior Riley Meyer, who won three matches.

Meyer defeated Kyle Savelkoul of Winona State 6-3, 2-6, 1-0 (6) and Kyle Scholtz of Truman State 6-2, 6-3.

The wins catapulted him into the round of 16, but Nathan Martin of Washburn defeated him 6-4, 6-2. Meyer and freshman partner Ricky Stowell won the lone doubles match for the ’Runners.

Stowell and seniors Drew Machholz and Mark Milner finished with wins in singles play to pace Metro.

Metro’s women’s team picked up three wins at the ITA North Central Region Championships at Washburn University in Topeka, Kan., on Sept. 22-24.

The doubles teams of April Hirad and Miriam Evangelista and Alecia Jenkins and Tia Mahoney picked up victories for the Roadrunners. Hirad tallied another win in singles action as she defeated Hollie Caras of Fort Hays State 6-4, 6-1.

Diana Goldsmith of Washburn defeated Hirad 6-1, 6-1 in the second round to end the season.

The Metro men’s tennis team finished the fall season with a 3-0 record, while the women ended 1-3.
