SGA responds to Zoë
Contrary to what last week’s article by Zoë Williams
might have you think, the Student Government Assembly here at
Metro is hard at work. Williams may be right in saying that the
SGA, as a whole, hasn’t done much, but that’s because
it wasn’t designed to operate as a whole. The committee
structure was created so that small groups of us can split our
efforts and work with faculty and administration around campus
to improve Metro in diverse ways.
Over the summer, while the majority of students were taking
a break from school, the IT committee was fighting a print solution
that would have over-limited student printing. Right now we are
on the Auraria Board working on ways to improve the campus as
a whole, including the idea to install solar panels on the roofs
of some of our buildings to provide clean energy on campus. The
Outreach Committee is constantly exploring ways to connect with
students and the community around us. In fact, this week we are
hosting an open house event for student input. The SGA fought
for, earned and has maintained a student majority on the Student
Affairs Board, which meets every week, deciding how millions
of dollars of student fees are collected and spent.
These are
only a few of the many things we are working on, and though they
may just be “obligatory involvement in administrative
decisions” to some people, we in the SGA take them very
seriously.
As for the vice-president issue, it’s over. It’s
been over for over two weeks now. The vice-presidential seat
will be filled by the student body along with the open SACAB
position in a special election by the end of this semester. As
for apathy, the 21 elected members of the SGA are doing everything
we can to make Metro a place that its students can be proud of.
If any student, even Zoë, has an idea for how to improve
Metro, or would like to know how they can get involved, they
are welcome to come see us in Tivoli 307 or call 303-556-3312.

Lord to man: 'Smoketh
thine ganja'
One important reason Metro readers should vote yes on Amendment
44 to legalize cannabis for adults doesn’t get mentioned.
Cannabis is biblically correct because Christ God, Our Father,
indicates He created all the seed-bearing plants, saying they
are all good on literally the very first page of the Bible (Genesis
1:11-12 and 29-30). The only biblical restriction placed on cannabis
is that it be accepted with thankfulness (1 Timothy 4:1-5).
It’s time to stop caging humans for using what God says
is good.
