Metro men deliver pair of close conference calls
By Jeremy Johnson

Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Player of the Week Jordan Ivey logged a pair of shutout wins as the Metro men’s soccer team swept two conference matches Oct. 13 and 15.

Midfielder Antonio Porras and forward Wynne Mason each notched a goal and an assist as Metro (12-4-1, 8-2-0 RMAC) rolled over UC-Colorado Springs (6-10-1, 2-6-1 RMAC) 3-0 on Oct. 13 in Colorado Springs.

Mason put Metro on the board in the 31st minute, forcing a turnover and promptly burying the stolen ball into the back of the net. The score remained 1-0 until the second half, when Shaun Elbaum scored on a Porras assist. Porras took a Wynne pass 41 seconds later and capped the game with the ’Runners third goal.

Ivey continued his solid play in goal with nine saves.

The Roadrunners faced a slightly tougher challenge on the road two days later against CSU-Pueblo (9-5-1, 5-5 RMAC).

Ivey was again key to the ’Runners success, making five saves on 15 Thunderwolves shots.
Metro outshot CSU-Pueblo 18-15 in the match and was held scoreless until midfielder Phillip Owen scored the lone goal of the game in the 83rd minute.

The Roadrunners host conference rivals Colorado Christian and Colorado School of Mines at Auraria Field Oct. 20 and 22, respectively.
