The Metro women’s soccer team continued their hot streak
with shutout wins over Incarnate Word, Colorado Christian and
Colorado School of Mines.
In a rare midweek game at Auraria Field,
the ’Runners (17-1-0,
10-0-0 RMAC) notched a 3-0 win over Incarnate Word on Oct. 11
that was fueled by a Kylee Hanavan goal just 35 seconds into
the match.
Kira Sharp added a pair of goals in the second half
to seal the victory over the ailing non-conference Cardinals
(7-8-1). The
Cardinals were outshot by a 13-3 margin.
Two days later, the ’Runners
grabbed a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference win in Lakewood
with the help of forward Katie Kilbey’s
two goals.
Midfielder Jaimie Stephenson scored the first goal
of the game in the 18th minute, and Hanavan added a goal and
two assists
in the 4-0 win over Colorado Christian.
The ’Runners outshot
the Cougars (3-11-2, 1-10-2 RMAC) by a whopping 20-6 margin.
Metro
capped the weekend with a 3-0 win over Colorado School of Mines
on Oct. 15 at Auraria Field.
In a repeat of their earlier performances,
Hanavan gave the ’Runners
an early lead with a goal in the 7th minute, and Sharp added
two more goals to ensure the win. Sharp scored her second free-kick
goal of the week in the 37th minute and scored late in the game
off a Kilbey assist.
Sharp was named the RMAC Player of the Week
on Oct. 17. She logged four goals and two assists over the span
of a week.
Goalkeeper Rachel Zollner was impeccable in all three
games, and the ’Runners logged their fifth consecutive
shutout with the trio of perfect games.
Metro has shut out the
opposition in 14 of their 18 games this season. The ’Runners
have won 59 straight games at home dating back to 2002.
Metro
hosts crosstown rival Regis at Oct. 20 and Fort Lewis Oct.
22 at Auraria Field. The two conference matches are the final
regular season games of the year. |
