There is no business like show business. That being said, there is also no business harder to break into than show business.

On Nov. 7 the Music and Entertainment Industry Student Association will host its western regional conference in the King Center Recital Hall. The conference will include four different discussion panels on topics of importance in the music and entertainment industry.

The conference will start at 9:30 a.m. and run until 5 p.m., and each panel will answer questions from the staff of MEISA.

“At the end of each panel, there is an opening for students to get up and ask any questions they want to know,” said Sebastian Hackett, public relations coordinator for MEISA.

The panels will feature professionals representing selected topics, including live music and touring, current trends in the music industry, innovations in media technology and how to get started as an artist.

The conference will also feature a pilot episode for the Denver-produced television show {noise:floor}, the brainchild of Isaac Slade from The Fray and director Kelly Magelky, which will feature the Denver music scene. It will play after lunch at about 12:30 p.m.

MEISA is a student organization dedicated to breaking students into the music and entertainment industry. The UCD chapter of MEISA will host the daylong conference, but it is not exclusive to UCD students. Attendees must pay a registration fee of $15 for current MEISA members and $30 for non-members, with a yearlong membership included for non-members. Registration forms can be found on the organization’s website at http://denverMEISA.org.

For students interested in joining the organization, MEISA meets every Tuesday in the Tivoli. However, the meeting room varies due to availability.

Non-members “can show up and check it out if they decide they want to become a member, and after that they’re able to (become members),” Hackett said. “It’s pretty relaxed. You can come to few meetings and not be a member. We’re not going to hassle you about it.”
